Samuel L Yankell

During the course of Samuel Yankell’s half century career as a research biochemist, he became increasingly immersed in painting and sculpture and developed a profound body of work that continues to evolve to this day.  Having grown up on a cattle farm in South Jersey, he had experimented in the arts as a youth but his major influence in painting began in the 1960s because of his friendship with the artist Leon Bibel.  He took his scientific methodology and began an exploration of painting in a broad range of 20th century styles including pure abstract as well as figurative and seaside works.  Sam’s other focus was in sculpture and over the next six decades he would also work in a great many media and styles. Most recently, this lifetime of aesthetic experience has poured into a series of iconic figurative sculptural works that exhibit tremendous geometric freedom and vitality. Samuel Yankell’s work is a reflection of a contemporary renaissance life, a life well lived that shines forth with peace and joy.
